Lyme Disease Message Board

Lyme Disease Board Index

jinxy I am sorry you have been sick for so long. No Lyme test is completely reliable and from what I understand the ELISA is the least reliable. Testing needs to be done at a Lyme reputable lab such as IgeneX in Palo Alto, CA. Being on antibiotics can also affect results.

200 mg of Doxy daily is not strong enough for Lyme. I believe the recommended dose for Lyme is 300-600 mg daily. Tickborne infections need stronger treatment than most other infections. When taking Doxy, do not eat dairy products two hours before or after the Doxy or it will not be absorbed properly. Also do not take magnesium or iron products within this time. Do not lay down for at least 30-60 minutes after taking Doxy or you could ulcerate your esophagus. This happened to me and is extremely painful. Doxy can also cause severe sun sensitivity so be careful. All of this should be listed on the pharmacy sheet.

Most, but not all, people experience the herx reaction. When it happens can vary. Many people experience them every four weeks or so. Keep a daily log of your symptoms. This willl allow you to see how your symptoms are being affected by the antibiotics and when herxes occur. One way to do this is to list the top three symptoms you have each day and give them a numerical rating from 1-10 of their severity.

It is very important to see a knowledgeable doctor. Besides Lyme disease, ticks can also transmit several co-infections including Babesiosis, Bartonella, Ehrlichiosis (HME & HGE), and Mycoplasma. Many people who have Lyme are co-infected so it is very important to be tested.
