Lyme Disease Message Board

Lyme Disease Board Index

Hi gmcnj, welcome to the board :)

Have you been tested for all the co-infections that ticks can transmit--Babesiosis, Ehrlichiosis (HME & HGE), Bartonella, and Mycoplasma? This is important becaue many people who have Lyme are co-infected. Being co-infected will affect treatment choice and progress. Many Lyme doctors feel the co-infections need to be treated first for Lyme treatment to be effective. Are you seeing a Lyme knowledgeable doctor?

IV Rocephin can be given as an infusion drip (when the medicine drips from an IV bag into the vein) or by a syringe infusion (when the medicine is injected into the vein in a four to five minute infusion). Usually a person has a PICC line located in the arm where the infusion line is attached for the meds to go in. It sounds very complicated but it really is not once you get used to it. Full instruction is given to the patient before they infuse on their own. There is no way to say how long it is needed because each case is different. Long-term IV is typical when treating Lyme.
