Hi Tom. Congratulations on starting treatment. How many grams of Rocephin are you infusing and how often? When are you getting your PICC line in? Getting the line is usually a quick and easy process with little pain.

I would check with your doctor about what meds are okay to take while on the Rocephin.

You should not drink when on antibiotics. Drinking interferes with the absorption of the antibiotics. And as Laurie states, it does not help your immune system.

Thanks for the info Laurie, my nurse swore to me that I could tolerate one drink a night but I think I'll just abstain.

Ticker, I'm infusing 2g of Rocephin every morning. I'll be getting the PICC line in the next few days hopefully or else I'll have to get the temp line replaced. I was unfortunate to not have the midline procedure work not once, but twice trying two different viens. The nurse said sometimes with "young, healthy" veins, it can be a problem.

Boy was it painful.

Also feeling a little more confident about the diagnosis. I forgot that for ten years I went to a summer camp and also worked as a counselor at one for a number of years. I hear that Lyme can remain dormant for years and then just "pop" up. I guess that's the case with me. Anyone else heard of this possibility?

Definitely happy to be starting the infusion therapy though. One day down, 27 to go!

Oh yeah, is it normal to get a sore throat after infusing?
Tom, are you going to be on Rocephin for only 28 days?

Yes getting stabbed repeatedly is painful! In case you did not know, there is a cover you can buy for your PICC line so you can take a shower without getting the site wet. It is called a PICC line cover and you can buy it on-line at Brown Medical Supply. It is a big help.

I have never gotten a sore throat after infusing. I don't know if this is common or not.
Yes, 28 days to start I guess. I'm getting married on November 13 and going to St. Lucia for my honeymoon right after so this treatment is going to go right up until four days before the wedding. Do you think 28 days is too short?

I'll look into that PICC line cover. Already just one day into it and it was a major pain in the you-know-what making sure I didn't get my line wet.

I followed up on the sore throat thingie with my nurse. It's actually progressed to flu-like symptoms as well. She told me that it's probably one of two things. I could be starting to herx or it could just be a coincidence and that I'm getting sick. She said that taking antibiotics strengthens some parts of the immunity system and weakens others.

Either way, it stinks.

;)
