Lyme questions.
Oct 21, 2004
I really have no idea what is going on with me, if it's really anything at all. I'm starting to feel like a hypochondriac.

End of August I found a tick on my leg. I don't think it could have been attatched more than 10 hours at most. Is this long enough to transmit disease? I've read information elsewhere that says a tick has to be attached several days before it can transmit Lyme.

I did not develop a bullseye rash, but understand that happens only about 50% of the time. About two weeks after finding the tick I began running a low grade temperature, 99.5 - 100. I did not go to the dr. right away because there were no other symptoms to go along with the temp, and it wasn't that high anyway. I know one symptom of Lyme is "fever", is 99.5 high enough to matter?

After running this low grade temp for 3 weeks I did finally go to the dr., I had begun having ear trouble by then, and coughing. (I have asthma though, so I cough alot anyway). Dr. diagnosed me with a sinus infection, upper resp infection, and ear infection and put me on 5 days of Zithromax which usually works really well for me. It didn't put a dent in this. My boyfriend was getting worried, said I wasn't looking well and not acting like myself. I was feeling really rotten. I was beyond tired, more tired than I've ever felt before. My ears hurt and were popping in and out like crazy. I was unsteady on my feet, dizzy and off balance. My vision was blurry, my hands and feet were getting numb/tingly sensations. I felt like I had small electrical charges running through my tongue and they were spreading into my checks. I had diarrhea. Concentrating on anything was getting more difficult. I just couldn't think! Sharp chest pains but they don't last long, just a few seconds. My hip joints are sore. Does this sound like these might be Lyme symptoms? (In case any of this might be important, I am a 39 yr. old, overweight female, who has allergies, asthma, diabeties, and gerd, and live in northern Indiana.)

When the Zithromax didn't work I went back to the dr. and told him about the tick. I just really hadn't thought it was important before. He ordered a Lyme titer test and gave me another antibiotic, erythromyacin(sp?), I think the pills were 333mg and I was to take 3 a day for 10 days.

The Lyme titer came back negative. I have no idea what lab the test was sent to. Do different labs use different values to determine pos/neg? Would it be worth my time to ask for a copy of the lab report?

While taking the new antibiotic, most of the above symptoms dissappeared and my temperature returned to it's normal 98.4 -98.7. A week after the run of antibiotics was finished, my low grade temp has returned, the chest pains are coming back (very mild) and so is the hip joint soreness. And tired, I feel asleep at my desk at work today. Just for a few seconds I think, thank goodness no one was around to notice. If it is Lyme how long would it take for the rest of my symptoms to return?

If I did want to find a LLMD to get more accurate testing done, are there any in the Chicago or Indianapolis areas? Sorry for all the questions and thank you in advance for any answers anyone can give me. :)
