Mar 9, 2005
Hello this is the second post I've done my husband and I worked in a bush camp out Timmons Ontario Canada 25 years ago is it possible for Lyme disease to affect him those years up to present time he has never been tested for Lyme's disease but he did say.one time he took that take off his body I also have MS verified by MRI and my crazy thinking he could possibly have Lyme's disease and that my MS could actually be that also? My concern is for him now I've posted on the fibromyalgia because I thought that was what he may have had then I started reading other posts about Lyme disease and fibromyalgia this definitely will be brought up with his GP or rheumatologist what kind of blood tests or tests does he have to ask for? Please help thank you any help will be appreciated

Hi sharonrose59, welcome to the board!

Yes it is possible to be infected with Lyme disease for many years. Yes it is possible that you may have it too. Sometimes people who have Lyme were first diagnosed with other diseases, including MS. Lyme disease can cause MS type lesions on a brain MRI. Also, some doctors believe that Lyme disease can be sexually transmitted; however, it is my understanding there is no documentation of this.

I highly recommend that you and your husband be evaluted by a Lyme doctor. It is very important to see a Lyme knowledgeable doctor. No test is completely reliable. Many doctors do not understand Lyme and treat with outdated protocols. A knowledgeable doctor will consider your entire histories and not rely solely on test results. Besides Lyme disease, ticks can transmit several co-infections including Babesiosis, Ehrlichiosis (HME & HGE), Bartonella, and Mycoplasma. Many people who have Lyme are co-infected. It is important to be tested for these by a Lyme reputable lab such as IgeneX in Palo Alto, CA.

If you tell me where you are located, I will tell you of the closest knowledgeable doctor to you that I know of. Are you still in Canada?

Hi sharonrose59. I know of one doctor in Canada who is supposed to be Lyme knowledgeable. His name is Dr. Ernie Murakami in Hope, BC. There is also a Canadian Lyme Disease Foundation. They may be able to give you some information.

I think it is always good to check out all possibilities when it comes to your health. I am not sure, but I believe there is a Lyme doctor in CT who has done some research on MS/Lyme. If you would like his name, lete me know. You could ask his staff about this.

I hope you and your husband can get some answers soon.
