Hi Free2BeFussy, I would like to jump in here & suggest you talk to the doctor to make sure she doesn't or probably shouldn't stay on the Tindamax too long. I was recently put on Tindamax, for the same reason, & researched it a bit before taking it; I do it with every drug I'm prescribed before use. The following is what I found on the Tindamax website.

"Metronidazole, a medicine like Tindamax, has caused cancer in mice and rats. For this reason, Tindamax should be used only to treat the 3 infections listed ". "TindamaxTM is a second-generation nitroimidazole (metronidazole is a first-generation nitroimidazole)."

My LLMD tried me on oral Flagyl & I had allergic reactions. That was a little over a year ago, so he wanted to try me on this one. However, I had the same thing happen. The site also states, if you have reactions to Flagyl, you'll have them with Tindamax. According to the owner of the lab, the same component is in both; tinidazole.

I would be concerned if she has to be on it long term; 12 to 18 mths. The owner of the lab also said, there are no long term studies of humans taking the drug. That's because the use for which it was initally made only requires a 7 day treatment period. People don't have to use it for longer than a week, therefore, there has been no long term use of the drug.

Good Luck with your daughter's treatment!!

So far, I don't know of any other drugs to burst the cyst forms. If anyone else does, I'd love to know. Ruth H
