Lyme Disease Board Index

Hi! I've been reading your postings over the past couple of weeks and I've noticed that you've mentioned you have panic disorder. Do you think that this is because of the lyme disease? Are you able to keep it under control? I was diagnosed with this about 4 years ago. Actually I ended up diagnosing myself. I've never been so scared in my life. I thought I was going crazy. I wouldnt leave my house for 1 month. I slowly began to get out again but wouldn't go anywhere by myself. I've come a long way, but I still have a very hard time driving. I haven't driven on the freeway for 3 1/2 years. I can barely drive my kids to school and get to the grocery store. This sucks since my husband works out of town 4 days a week so I don't have a lot of help. I was wondering what you do for the panic attacks if you are still having them. I got the "The Anxiety and Phobia Workbook" from my phychologist but was having a panic attack after reading two pages. I also bought the program from the Midwest Center "Attacking Anxiety and Depression" about 4 years ago but can't seem to stand to listen to the tapes and do the workbook for the same reasons. I thought that this would eventually go away and I'm really feeling a sense of loss of myself and getting depressed about not being able to do the things I used to. Can you give me any insight? I'm really struggling with this right now. Thanks so much.
P.S. I also noticed that you are taking De. Jernigan's Borrelogen. What exactly is this? Does it help with the anxiety? Have you found anything that does. So far all I have found that helps is Xanax and Klonopin. I've been taking Nutramedix Samento for 7 months now and the lyme is getting better but I backtracked a little this month so they put me on Nutramedix Cumanda for 2 weeks alternating with the Samento. I guess I'll see how this works out.
Hi Amber,

I'm sorry you are suffering from panic disorder as I know it is very scary. Let me start with Dr. Jernigan's Borrelogen which primary purpose it to help the body heal itself (it's been around now for 6 years). Dr. Jernigan created it using specific plant extracts and after taking the Borrelogen, that's when I started to notice a big change in getting better from Lyme. I don't think it has helped with anxiety but it has given me more energy (it also contains samento).

As far as panic disorder, it is definitely not connected to Lyme since I remember having the attacks as a very little girl (at that time I didn't know what it was).

I wanted to be rid of the Panic Disorder so I attended a class for 3 months, did all their exercises, homework, etc., and I didn't improve at all.

The doctor who ran that class told me that in my case I probably inherited the disorder from my family. So I went to another doctor in New Jersey who ran tests on me to check if it was a chemical imbalance, that was 20 years ago do I don't remember the names of the tests.

The result was I do have a chemical imbalance in my brain that my Mom has, my sister has, and all the females in my family from Grandmothers, etc., thanks Family!!

I take 25 mg of Paxil XR everyday and that helps me tremendously and controlls the panic about 90% of the time.

I sympathize with you as I know the feeling of being scared to drive as I suffer from the same. I still don't drive on parkways but I do drive everyday. I found that if I let myself stay inside for more than a couple of days, my anxiety gets worse so I make myself go out.

Then if I happen to get anxiety I start doing a breathing exercise or distract myself. It's one of the worse feelings in the world because one feels like they are really going to lose it but you never do.

The Paxil keeps one's serotonin in the brain longer which prevents the attack. As it was explained to me, my serotonin "leaks" out thus causing an attack. Paxil is known as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI). Most people can take it, I know some that can not.

Doing yoga also helps me not only with Lyme but to generally relax.

I hope that helps!
