Lyme Disease Board Index

Hi Scott,

Glad you found this great site with lots of information and support! So sorry to hear of your problems. Sounds like you most definitely have Lyme Disease.

Jules is correct when she said that Lyme is really a clinical diagnosis based on a person's symptoms though it is good to be checked for coinfections by a reputable lab called IgeneX in Palo Alto, CA. Your symptoms sound like Lyme and Babesiosis to me. You may want to get checked for coinfections by IgeneX. Many doctors believe that the coinfections should be treated before the Lyme itself.

Another thing is that most people don't remember getting bit by a tick because ticks leave a "numbing" sensation when they bite. Also, you could have been infected a while ago and the lyme bacterias stay dormant in the body until a stressful situation or event happens, like your operation that comprises the immune system.

The good news is that Lyme is curable with the right treatment and a "reputable" Lyme Literate Medical Doctor (LLMD).

There is a Dr. Steven Harris that comes highly recommended and has offices in Malibu, Long Beach, and Fairfield, CA. Many members have to travel across states to see their doctor as there are not that many reputable doctors.

Below is a Lyme Disease symptom list that Ticker listed (our expert):

Ticks can also transmit several serious co-infections:

--Babesiosis is similar to malaria. It is caused by a protozoa that invades, infects and kills the red blood cells. Symptoms include chills, sweats, fatigue, headache, weakness, muscle aches and pains, dizziness and heart palpitations.

--Ehrlichiosis is an infection caused by a rickettsiae (a bacterial parasite) that invades and infects the white blood cells. There are two types of Ehrlichiosis--HME and HGE. Symptoms include fever, malaise, headaches, chills, sweating, severe muscle aches and pains, nonproductive cough, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

--Bartonella is also known as cat scratch fever and has recently been attributed to tick transmission

Education is one of the best defenses against this disease and I recommend that you buy the book called "Everything You Need to Know About Lyme Disease and Other Tick-Borne Disorders, 2nd Edition" by Karen Vanderhoof-Forschner.
