okay, it's me again! so yesterday i brought madeline to her pcp and he examined her and said he really didn't think it was lyme, even with all of the symptoms and i had printed out a dateline of everything that has happened. yes, that's no shocker there, i knew he wasn't really believing it.

anyway, he wants to rule out everything so here is the blood work he is ordering: ANA, streptozyme, ehrlichiosis titer, babesios titer, parvovirus titer, cbc/diff, western blot IgG and IgM lyme

does anyone know anything about any of these because i am trying to be as prepared as possible about the testing and results. if the western blot is negative, does that mean she doesn't have lyme?

also, i did speak with dr. jones' office on saturday and i told her that saturday morning she was complaining big time of leg pain and they said she is symptomatic and has to be treated and most likely longer than 31 days. they are going to try to get us in as soon as possible. they told me to tell my pcp to put her on zithromax but my doctor didn't want to do that so he put her on ceftin. she got one dose last night and another this morning so we'll see what happens later today. i thought that was in the same family as amoxicillin but maybe i'm wrong. he said he knew dr. jones and that he was a very good doctor but went crazy with antibiotics.

okay, sorry about the saga. i am so thoroughly confused and believe this has basically become a game of he said/she said between my doctor and everything i else i read and hear. thanks so much for letting me bounce these things off of you guys. i hope everyone is doing well. : )

Hi Helene.

As you are learning, there is a lot of controversy about Lyme disease. It is good the doctor is testing her for the Ehrlichiosis and Babesiosis co-infections, but it is important to be tested by a Lyme lab such as IgeneX.

No a negative Western Blot does not rule out Lyme. Many people who have Lyme test negative by CDC standards, which require several bands to be positive on the Western Blot. Many people who have Lyme do not have this many bands. Lyme doctors often look at which bands are present, some are specific for Lyme. Get copies of all your results.

It is good that Dr. Jones will try to see her sooner. It is also good she is currently on antibiotics. Hang in there okay? Keep us posted on how things ar going.

Hi Helene,

I know all of this is hard to take in. I was just dianosed with Lyme myself and since I live in the south, most of my doctor's looked at me like I was nuts when I mentioned Lyme even though there are many cases. A doctor about two hours from me who is a chronic fatigue and fobro doctor, actually caught Lyme himself and realized that most of his patients coming in with those symptoms actually had Lyme after being tested. He told me MANY patients get negative results but respond positively to antibiotics. Sometimes we have to step up and take situations in our own hands. That's the only way we will get better. I've been reading a whole lot about Lyme and am finally learning. Look up info on the internet about Lyme and try to read up on it as much as you can and you will understand why doctor's are sometimes so ignorant.

I hope your daughter feels good soon and I hope she finds a knowlegeable doctor.

Chantel
