Re: I am so mad!!!
Aug 13, 2007
Hi -

FYI - I have Lyme and have for over a year now. My PCP was the one that put me on the standard course of antibiotics for a month and then when the retest came back positive, he said "there is nothing more I can do for you". I saw a Lyme specialist and was on oral antibiotics (Doxycycline 200 mg twice a day) for six months. When I mentioned to my PCP that I still felt extreme fog and an MRI showed enlarged ventricles in my brain he (my PCP) said "enough, lets get you on IV antibiotics". I have had a PICC line in for almost two months now and it is scheduled to be removed next week. I am going to my PCP at 4:45 today to discuss it with him.

My case is a little different than your daughters because I am an almost 42 year old male and I also developed blood clots in my left arm from the first PICC (they moved it to my right arm and I have been on blood thinners).

So, my point is, I KNOW some Drs are coming around to the idea of long term (even IV) antibiotics for Lyme patients. Infectious Disease specialists tend to go right along with the main stream medical community (in my experience - I went to an ID as well and he did) and NOT like to prescribe long term abx.

Anyway, I would fight it if you can and possibly find an LLMD (Lyme Literate M.D.) who your daughters MD might be willing to work with and continue the treatment.

Hope it helps. Good luck!

Take care and God bless, Andy
