Feeling Lyme Lousy
Sep 6, 2003
Hi--
I'm new here and am reaching out because I'm feeling pretty alone with my Lyme battles. I've been recently diagnosed with Lyme for the third time in the past 15 years, but have faced so much doubt and disbelief from doctors and others that it's hard not to internalize it.

My first Lyme infection went undiagnosed for 3 years; I was nearly unable to walk when it was finally diagnosed and I was treated with IV Ceftriaxone for two weeks. Six years later I felt miserably flu-ish and developped a large bulls-eye rash, and was treated with 3 weeks of amoxicillin. Now I have had a swollen and sore knee for nearly eight weeks, pain, achiness, memory difficulties and brain fog, and though my Lyme blood test was negative, my doctor feels it is Lyme and I am on 3 weeks Doxycycline. (This is my 4th day of pills).

For two days now I have had terrible chills and shivering, on-and-off nausea, deep exhaustion, and continued pain in my knee. Is this a Herx reaction? My doctor hadn't heard of them before.

I also feel like I have a bladder infection. Could this be a side effect of the Doxy?

I guess, most of all, I keep wondering: is this normal? I feel so awful and everyone seems to act like Lyme disease is no big deal.

Thanks so much for reading; any thoughts or advice would be so welcome.

Blessings,
Meg
