Lyme Disease Board Index

right now taylor has decided to go with an ms medication --she is 19 so Im not too thrilled with the idea but shes my life as is her brother and I will stand by her decision --shes only going to try this for a couple of months ( 1 -injection per month) and if theres no improvement or she gets worse shes told me she will stop and right away go on intervenous antibiotic - so I have to be ok with her decision..I will be keeping a very close eye on her and she knows it..right now her legs are getting stronger and shes on no meds..at all, she still has the droopy eye and when she gets tired you can really see it..thanks for your well wishes and any other information will be greatly appreciated. K:)
An MRI of the brain would be one indicator if she has MS. It would pick up white matter that a neurologist is trained to detect.

If you suspect she has Lyme, under no circumstances are steroids to be taken unless it is to save one's life or vision. Lyme is a bacteria and steroids lowers the immune system giving Lyme a green light to spread to the nervous and immune system. This happened to me.

Taking a Lyme test just after taking steroids or antibiotics would not give you an accurate result. Wait a couple weeks if possible because steroids and/or antibiotics lowers the antibodies the test is trying to measure. The only accurate Lyme test is done from Igenex in California and any Lyme Literate MD (LLMD) would recommend that lab. If drawing blood, have her vitamin D levels checked as that is a sign of a weakened immune system. Spinal taps are also a poor test to detect Lyme and somewhat unpleasant.

Please do not confuse a Lyme Literate MD with an Infectious Disease Specialist. There is a huge difference (you want to find an LLMD who follows ILADS guidelines). A Lyme is a diagnosis based on symptoms AND blood work.

I am not trying to steer you in a Lyme direction but MS and Lyme symptoms are similar. If she showed temporary improvement with steroids and then regressed, it is probably not MS.

I would also suggest she try supplements to boost her immune system such as Vitamin C and supplements for liver support. Please PM me if you have any questions.
