New here!
Jun 30, 2012
I have been battling something horrible for the past 5 years. I was diagnosed with MS in 2007 and sought treatment for a few years. I got fed up with the horrible side effects and decided to fight it on my own until a month ago. I was re tested for everything under the sun including Lyme and it came back equivocal. They sent off for the western blot with labcorp and it came back positive for igM on 2 different things but negative on igG! I am currently taking doxy but my family dr admitted he has never treated this and does not know how so he is sending me to an infectious disease doctor who specializes in tickborne illnesses. Please give me feedback on whether this is a good idea! Do you think this could be a false positive since the igG was neg?

Thank you so much for your time,
Mommy in need of advice
My worry is that I was positive for igg not I have a current infection? So it couldn't have been years ago?
You really cannot rely solely on tests when it comes to lyme. This is why LLMDs go primarily by clinical symptoms. But if your IGM was positive that indicates a current infection. It doesn't mean you didn't have one in the past because the test is not definitive when the result is "negative". For instance, my IGM was always positive but IGG negative (which is true for most people who test positive for IGM); however, I had lyme disease for well over 20 years so obviously I was infected.
