I don't know why they are not diagnosing you with lupus. if you look at the sticky posts at top of lupus board for the criteria used as guidelines for diagnosis. You need to have, in general, 4 or more, one of which is a positive ANA, which you have. I would not be chasing Lyme when your tests for it have been negative. I would ask Dr to start on Placquenil, the first line drug used for lupus and UCTD. There is no reason for you to keep suffering with this, when treatment is available. You need NOT have any other antibodies, like Smith or dsDNA for a ex of lupus. ANA is enough with adequate symptoms.

I have been tested for multiple Lupus and non-Lupus antibodies over the course of more than a year. The positive ANA is why they are holding onto the diagnosis of UCTD at this time. I took Plaquenil for over a year and my doctor has recently taken me off the medication because my symptoms were getting worse and the medication was doing nothing for me. Neither of us are certain that it ever helped me to begin with and I was on it for more than long enough for it to do so if it was going to. (Yes, I know that flares can still occur on Plaquenil, but the pattern of my flares did not change at all and only increased.) It was explained to me that UCTD mimics many symptoms of Lupus, without quite being diagnosable Lupus. It mimics a few other autoimmune diseases too. This is why I am stuck at the 'wait and see' approach for now to see what my body does on its own. The only thing we are trying different at this time is a high-dose once-weekly Vitamin D supplement since that test came back low once again.
