About 5 yrs ago I was severely desperate as a result of a sleep disorder. I was not suicidal, but I did act out in a dangerous manner. I was involuntarially admitted to a psych ward when I refused to go on my own; I stayed about 10 days. On two other occasions in the next 2 yrs, I voluntarily entered psych hospitals for short stays.

For the last 3 yrs I've been out. I do take meds (Seroquel 400mg) but am otherwise OK. I know certain priveliges are denied people who've been comitted. You can't own guns, for starters, plus I'm sure certain careers are off-limits.

My question: I'm considering applying for a government job that requires a background check (I think 10 yrs). Am I permanently marked by my comittment? Or can I do anything to clear my name?
