Miscarriage & Still Birth Message Board

Miscarriage & Still Birth Board Index

I just had a misscarriage at 6 weeks. I was 8 weeks when they found out and at almost 10 they had to schedule a D&E. Although I'm one of the lucky who knows why they miscarried (chromosonal), it doesn't make it any easier. We all want and need answers. I'm almost certain my problem is due to my age (41). But it doesn't make it any easier to deal with. I'm looking for answers as to how I can produce better eggs! I had to use IVF as my method of conception. For this reason I was on blood thinners (baby aspirin) and progesterone. I have had my thyroid tested - it's an easy test, you really should insist on it! I've heard more than once that is problem accounts for a large portion of miscarriages. I had to have a D&E because my body wasn't giving up the baby. Perhaps (I hope) a sign that I can hold on to a baby to term.

Unfortunatley for the average pregnancy, you aren't 'entitled' (according to our insurance carriers) to an ultrasound before 12 weeks. In your case, I would insist (even if you have to pay for it out of pocket - mine was approx $125) on one at 6/7 weeks, and then again around 9! This may help. I was at my ultrasound when the doctor discovered the problem.

As said before, you must insist on being looked at. You are the only one who knows your body best. If something is off, then find out why. Don't let yourself be put off by nurses or doctors. We have to take our health into our own hands at times.

For now, I'm on PNV's and good nutrition in hopes that come Oct, when I should be going for another IVF cycle, I produce some kick 'A' healthy eggs!

We're here if you need to vent, find answers, or just want to chat.
