15 weeks, fluid around brain and organs no heartbeat

one of my closest friends went for her u/s today to find out what the sex was and came to find out her baby had died. She goes in for a D&C today and they will do an autopsy.
they baby had grown but there was no heartbeat, fluid around the organs and surrounding the brain.
has this happened to anyone? she miscarried in january and now this. I want to support her but i don't know what to say to help her work through this. the OB suggested that there may have been a genetic problem to cause this to happen?

help? suggestions? advice? past experiences? anything. please
