Miscarriage & Still Birth Message Board

Miscarriage & Still Birth Board Index

I had a D&C just over 3 weeks ago and I think I just ovulated (taking my temps & had a bit of spotting) so am expected my period in about 2 weeks, assuming that part of my cycle will be normal. I am just wondering if your first period after a D&C or miscarriage is worse than a regular period? I normally have pretty bad periods so am really dreading this one since I thought I heard somewhere it would be worse. Would be interested to hear your experiences.

Also, in response to others asking about how long to wait to try to conceive again, my doctor said on Friday that I should just wait until I had had one normal period & then could try again. Others here have said they were told 3-4 months so I was surprised at this.
Thanks for the reply, JellyB. I have a feeling I'll be taking some sick days around then! I have such bad cramp in a regular month, I'm not sure how I'll handle it if it's worse.

I was almost 8 weeks when I had the D&C, but my babies (twins) only lived to be just over 6 weeks.

Best of luck to you as you TTC again! I'm sure it will happen for you very soon. We're going to wait until the end of the summer before TTC. We had been trying for over a year before we conceived the first time and then with the miscarriage and D&C, we feel we just need a bit of a break. And by then hopefully my body will be back to normal & ready.
I had a D&C for a miscarriage (8 weeks along baby stopped growing, found out at almost 11 weeks) 9 days ago. 4 days ago I began my period. I used to have heavy painful periods, and this was the absolute worst, worse even than the miscarriage before this one - natural at home. I had horrible cramping and flooding blood. I was also passing very large clots which I read is why I was cramping so badly.
Hi Everyone,
I have had (2) miscarriages and after both i had a very heavy period. Not really painful, just a lot of it.
It was back to normal by the 2nd one though.
As far as how long you should wait, i have seen 3 different doctors since the 1st one, and all of them said to wait 3-4 months. One of them said that your percentage of miscarring (sp?), goes down the longer you wait.
I even saw a specialist who said to wait atleast 3 months.
Basically you want to give your body time to heal and repair tissue that was damaged during DNC.
I would like to ask something; has anyone had problems with hormones since miscarriage? I have had horrible sweats (just like menopausal hotflashes form what i've heard) since the 1st one. I also notice that my PMS is much worse than ever. Has anyone dealt with the same things?
