I'm in the midst of an ectopic (tubal) pregnancy and was given a methotrexine shot last Wednesday (4/16).

I have been having my blood monitored since the shot to make sure that pregnancy stops, looking for HcG levels to go down now. I was told to expect the initial HcG to be on the rise as it takes anywhere from 48 hours up to 5 days for the methotrexine to kick in. First test after shot my HcG was 3079, second blood draw the HcG was 2843, third was 2367 and today it shot back up to 3514.

Spoke to my doc and he is concerned. He thinks that a second shot should do the trick however I am severely freaked out now. Has anyone ever gone through this?

Jessica, I am so sorry that you are going through this. I just wanted to mention a couple things after reading your post and then reading Kari's reply.... I have had an EP and needed 2 meth shots that time. My 2nd EP ending in a ruptured tube and emergency surgery.

I felt the same way when I went back in for the 2nd shot but, after much research I found that more than one shot is sometimes needed. I was hesitant to even have the first shot and really did not want to have the 2nd but, It worked and I was safe and my numbers went down and I didn't need surgery.
I agree with making sure to get treatment asap if needed!!!

Hugs to you sweetie, I am sorry for your loss.
