Told I may have MS
Apr 3, 2015
Hello All,

I have been having problems since Oct. 24th 2014. It started when I was on vacation in a restaurant, I turned suddenly and Bam, blurred vision hit me like a ton of bricks. I was transported to the hospital thinking I was having a stroke. Before this I felt perfectly fine. I didn't even have a primary care physician, just went for my annual with my gynecologist. I'm 52 and since this incident I haven't had a day that I've felt normal. I have dizziness (not spinning, just feelings of unsteadiness) and numerous bouts of blurred vision
along with pressure at the base of my skull and sharp lightening like pains in my head. I had an MRI which came back with white spots (results said white spots secondary to MS) and a CT scan. I've been to 2 neurologists had blood work which showed ANA was positive (no titre values, just said positive). I've had extensive cardiolopin (sp) to check if I'm at risk for a blood clot or aneurism. I also have developed a rash (dermatologist said it looks like psoriasis) on my hands and feet which I've applied the steroid cream as directed but it has yet to go away and it itches terribly. I also feel like I have a slight fever all the time. My MRI also showed an acute sinus infection under my right eye which I was given antibiotics for treatment. I have a terrible time driving to and from work, constant neck discomfort and anxiety for fear I'll have a bout of blurred vision while on the road. My neurologist thinks it's MS and has scheduled a spinal tap. I don't have any muscle weakness, or pain anywhere except for a tingling of my scalp along with pressure in my head.

Does this sound like MS with no reprieve? I have been like this since Oct 24
and really want the spinal tap because since the onset the only thing I've found out is that my ANA test is positive and I have a rash and white spots on the brain. I'm just looking for an answer.

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,
Alexi
Hello Alexi,

There is no blood test for MS and nothing found in a persons blood work that would indicate MS. A positive ANA does not support a diagnosis of MS and is not part of the diagnostic criteria. Many with MS have never had the ANA turn up positive, myself included.

Has anyone mentioned Systemic Lupus to you?
since the onset the only thing I've found out is that my ANA test is positive and I have a rash and white spots on the brain
Lupus can cause white spots on brain MRIs, positive ANA and skin rashes. MS does not affect the skin.
I also feel like I have a slight fever all the time.
This does not sound like something MS causes but I may be misinterpreting your meaning.

Have you been to an Ophthalmologist regarding your blurred vision? If not you may want to consider it.
I have a terrible time driving to and from work, constant neck discomfort and anxiety for fear I'll have a bout of blurred vision while on the road.
Tension and anxiety can cause your neck discomfort. I do understand your reaction.

Just some thoughts from reading your post. I hope all goes well and in the end Multiple Sclerosis is not your diagnosis. Take care.
