Eye twitching
Aug 28, 2004
Need your input...

I have had an eye twitch for around a week now. Yes, in the past, like everyone else I've had the little muscle below my eye twitch a little from time to time but never 24 hours a day for a full week.

Everyone that speaks to me stares a it. Its kinda mesmerizing. It is very visible, unlike the ones in the past that I felt and no one could see.

Is there anyway this is related to my MS. Afterall, it is a muscle. Have any of you had this happen? Any insight into what I can do to get it to stop? I slept last night for 9 hours hoping that would do the trick....no luck.

Thanks!

Naomi

Hi Naomi
I've just got rid of a twitching eye which lasted approximately 2 months & drove me crazy. I've had it in the past for a few days but not this long. Apparently it can be caused by a few things - too much caffeine, stress, eye infection, hair irritating it, eye makeup.........I don't think it's linked with MS.

:) Have you been you been diagnosed with MS? If so yes, and it will come and go. Just wondering what eye does it bother. It bother my right eye the worse but, it is migraiting to the left eye.

bellesignon,

My GP and the radiologist say I have MS (based on lesions and symptoms). My neurologist says if it is MS it appears to be mild or just beginning.

I wasn't certain if persistant eye twitching was a problem with MS....but having never had it this bad before....and it occuring right on the heels of my other problems it got me to wondering.

It is just my right eye and I'm into week two of it-without let up.

My mom's first symptom of MS was her eyes. She went blind for three days with no apparent reason, this is over 30 years ago and no one knew what it was from. They later diagnosed her with MS and as far as they can tell, her temporary blindness was the first indicator of MS. The good news is, it never happened again, in the 30+ years she has had MS, she has never had another case of going blind.

This is the best news that I have heard ever! Your mom was very fortunate. Is she on any treatment?

I am glad I can bring a bit of good news! The answer to your question about my mom ever having treatment is yes and no. My mom was adamant about not trying any "new experimental" drugs, but she does take medication to help with her stiffness and mobility. But, she does not have MS alone, and many of her symptons are from the combination of her MS, Schogrunds (sp?), Rheumatory Arthritis, Fibromyalgia...etc. I believe her positive thinking and her determination to not allow this affect her life as a mom and wife really played a part in keeping her going through the years. Oh, and the fact that now she does go to Physical Therapy 3-5 times a week (her condition has worsened a lot in the last 5 years). I wish I could remember the name of her prescriptions, that may be of more help, but if you would like to know more, please let me know and I will do some research. Good Luck!
