Not sure..MS?
Feb 19, 2006
I have no idea if I should even consider looking into this further, but would like an opinion. I've been to three neurologists prior to 2000 and have had tests done because I have had tingling sensations and numbness in my face and arm, have been physically unstable (was told I am mentally as well by a neurologist and was referred to a psychiatrist), among other issues. This neurologist that told me that was later informed I have RSD, Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome, and his reply was ,"So? What does that have to do with me. I am a neurologist and we do not treat RSD". I now see a neurologist as they DO treat The RSD was dx'd in Dec. 2000, 2 years after onset. Prior to the RSD dx, one of the neurologists did an MRI and an EEG on me. According to the medical record, the MRI showed "Several abnormalities on the left frontal lobe and an increase in the perivascular space in the inferior basal ganglion and dysplastic cerebellar hemisphere. The differential has been stated to be multiple sclerosis or ischemia." The EEG showed some abnormalities that might represent possible seizure activity. That neurologist said I didn't have MS.

Now that I have had RSD for the past 8+ years, I've had a spinal cord stimulator implanted. There are wires going up my spine and around my waist to the battery pack in my abdomen. I am not allowed to have an MRI due to the metal.

I have had many lumbar sympathetic nerve blocks with no anesthesia or numbing agents. I can handle pain, but admit I am terrified of an LP. Our pain persceptions are heightened with RSD.

Last Friday I blacked out while driving. Thankfully I did not hurt anyone or anything. Now that the dizziness and headaches have started again I am concerned. They come and go every few months. Does this sound like it could be MS? After seeing those neurologists, I am leery of going back as the one said there was nothing physically wrong with me. Please know I would go years between doctor appts. because I felt it was a waste of time. Not too bright, I know and wouldn't take an aspirin for a headache. There is a chance I have cervical cancer as well. Just another reason to get regular check-ups, right? I am not crazy, a hypochondriac or anything of the sort. Just concerned , especeially after the black out on Friday and wondering if this may be MS.

Thank you.
