Hi! New Here
Jun 26, 2007
Hi Everyone! My nickname is Candi and I am 33 yrs old. I have a 12 yr old son, 9 yr old daughter, and almost 4 yr old daughter. I have been married to my wonderful husband for almost 12 yrs. We are high school sweethearts.
I have been reading posts on here for about a month and thought I'd finally come out of hiding and say Hi. I've been wanting to add to discussions and introduce myself but I'm always sooo tired and I think I'll do it tomorrow, but then I'm tired again, Haha! I'll try to make this as short as possible, but it's going to be kind of long. I just need to communicate with people who can understand how I am feeling. Here it goes......

I am not dx with ms. I am just in limboland trying to find out what's going on. I have so many symptoms. I had no idea that my symptoms could be neurological, because I didn't know much about neurological disorders. After writing down all my symptoms and then searching the internet, I discovered ms and some other disorders. I was shocked at how many similar symptoms I have. Thankfully I had written my symptoms down and told people about them before searching the net. That way people (my husband) wouldn't think I was just finding new symptoms and it was all in my head. I have been thinking back to many Dr appts over the years, with unexplained symptoms that would come and go. Now I'm realizing it could be related. I would go to the Dr. complaining of severe fatigue, dizziness, headaches/migraines, numb/tingly hand. Most of the time the symptoms would appear at seperate times and some things didn't seem they needed to be mentioned. About 2 yrs ago I was given clonazepam for restless limb syndrome (mainly arm). The only thing I can think back to as a possible flare up as a kid was when I was about 11 and one of my legs kept giving out. I would be walking and almost fall down. It lasted about a month. My mom did take me to the Dr and that was a joke. He made me hop on my leg and then said I'd be ok. I dont know if that has anything to do with anything, but it's a thought. I always had fatigue on and off but nothing at all like now.

Ok, as for how I am feeling now. I haven't felt like myself ever since having my 3rd child in 2003. I kept telling everyone that I think it did something to my body. Have had bouts of fatigue and trouble keeping up with daily chores, etc and I didn't have this problem before. My weight has fluctuated alot since having my first child 12 yrs ago. Finally last year I decided I was going to lose it. I lost 75 lbs and wanted to lose about 30 more. I was feeling so happy and actually going swimming last summer with my family, having fun clothes shopping, etc. I just felt like I was at a high point in my life. My dad died unexpectedly in July and that was really hard. Then my mother in law passed in Nov. She had been sick for awhile and we were expecting it but it was still hard. It was about Oct 2006 when things started geting bad with me. I started having a rapid pounding heart rate, feeling extremely fatigued (which has gotten worse), dizzy, lightheaded, chronic coughing, back pain. Then around February 2007 I started having trouble swallowing and feeling as if I was being strangled all the time. Lots of feelings of pins and needles all over my body, which I thought was extra electricity in my body. LOL! numb/tingly hands/arms feet/legs (not all at the same time). Recently, my right arm/hand and right leg has been driving me nuts. pins and needles/numb feelings plus LOTS of muscle twitches. My right calf has been tight, crampy feeling for about 1.5 months and it radiates into the rest of my leg. About 3 weeks ago my right foot and leg had muscle spasms/twitches for 2 days straight. Last Thursday my right hand was tingly and had muscle spasms/twitches for about 12 hours constantly. I have also had the twitches all over my body but they dont last as long as those episodes. I have been having alot in the front of my neck (throat area). I get them in my face, lip, abdomen, bladder, legs, feet, arms, hands, Ok EVERYWHERE! The twitches have been going on for about a month or so. The only eye trouble I have had is floaters, but I only see them when I'm not feeling well or I'm dizzy. My body has been really itchy for about a month. One thing that really scares me is that I have been having memory problems and saying/ doing weird things. My kids just look at me like I'm nuts sometimes. My 9 yr old keeps asking if I'm dying. I try to not let them know how bad I feel, but they know things aren't normal. I can feel like I have some energy to go to the movies or go do something and I go take a shower to get ready and then feel like I'm drained. I told the Dr I think I'm allergic to the water, lol. I can't even do the fun things I used to do. I feel like I can fall asleep at any given moment. It doesn't matter if I've had 2 hours of sleep or 15 hrs. I always feel the same. The fatigue has to be the worst of my symptoms and then the dizziness/vertigo. Much of the time I feel like my body is so heavy and I'm just dragging it around. My legs are really weak sometimes. I also feel shaky alot of the time but its not really bad. I just want to get it figured out so badly!

So far, my regular Dr has checked thyroid and done all the normal bloodwork. I went to a GI specialist for the swallowing problem and had an upper endoscopy and was diagnosed with esophageal dysmotility (the muscles aren't contracting right to bring food down), but we dont know why yet. I have a follow up this Thursday to discuss it. He also dialted my esophagus and that has helped with the strangling feeling for the most part. I have also done an event monitor for my fast heart rate & palpitations. That diagnosed me with svt (fast heart rate but usually not life threatening). I couldn't handle the pounding all the time so I am now on nadolol (beta blocker) and it has really helped, but I still have symptoms sometimes. I had 5 Drs tell me I needed to go to the neurologist for my other symptoms.

I had my neurologist appt today and it went pretty well. I felt really comfortable talking to her. I told her I feel like everyone thinks I'm crazy. She reassured me that I'm not crazy. She listened to all I had to say. She did the regular little neuro exam and that seemed to go well besides being a little unstable. She ordered a brain MRI (with and w/o contrast), which I will have this Thursday. She wants to do some extensive blood work but is getting my records from my reg Dr so she knows what I've already had done. She said if my MRI shows a little bit of white matter it might still be normal because of my migraines. She also said that sometimes migraines can cause the symptoms I'm having. I told her my migraines haven't been bad for about the last 6 months or so. She didn't mention any condition I might have. I go back to her next Friday and we will go from there, she said. If the MRI and bloodwork is normal she said she might order an EEG. If all else fails she said she might order a sleep study to check for apnea, which could cause the fatigue. I highly doubt I have apnea. She said we will figure this out so I can start living my life again. That would be great! I think she is going to be a really good Dr. from what I've seen so far.

I've probably left some things out but if you have any questions, ask away :) Sorry this post is so long but it's kind of hard to put it all in a nutshell, LOL!
I look forward to getting to know you guys as we try to get this all figured out.
