Eye twitching
Dec 24, 2008
My right eye has been twitching off and on for the past week and a half. It is something that looking back was happening now and then prior to my diagnosis, but I didn't really pay too much attention to it.

I am so hypersensitive right now about anything that happens with my body. My neck hurts and I immediately think it's related to the MS, but then I wonder if I just slept on it wrong..... I'm having such a hard time not blowing every little thing out of proportion.

On top of that, I'm terrified about having another attack so something like my eye twitching has me totally stressed out that this is the start of the next attack. I have no other symptoms of a relapse, and the twitch isn't constant....just happens randomly throughout the day. Just seems like it's occurring more today than previous days (although again, not constant). I think on Sunday, it didn't happen at all.

My right eye used to twitch, but now, depending on the light, it stays closed. I wear a pair of polarized sunglasses.

Whenever you have a problem, write it in a journal. Then when you see your doctor, pull out the journal and inquire as to the possibility for MS causing the problem. Once you learn what your MS does for you, when the problems present again, you will not be shocked and you will be a "pro" at handling the situation!

So it could be just one of those "symptoms" of MS I just have to deal with from time to time?? I shouldn't necessarily take it as an onset of another relapse?? I am only 4 weeks out from my first relapse, and I know they say it could take up to 3 months to fully come out of an attack.... I just feel like I'm overreacting about a simple eye twitch at this point. I feel like the more I think about it, the more it happens...

For me it is a symptom of my MS. I would wait and see what happens. You might test yourself and see whether light causes the twitching. You might also do a stress check because twitching could also be a sign of stress. You indicated your anxiety. Anxiety can present with symptoms.

I read a study recently that suggested crossword puzzles or other mind puzzles that redirect your focus from the anxiety and towards other tasks. You can also look at relaxation techniques such as yoga, prayer, or meditation.

Does this mean that twitching might be one of your MS symptoms? MAYBE. At this point in time, I would note the symptoms in your journal. Maintain this journal in great detail and this can give your doctor insight into you and your MS.

My neurologist told me that after 3 years of symptoms, I had experienced all the symptoms I would. This means that my problems from here onward will repeat. As I have been through this already, I am able to persevere. Once I have new things pop up, I can pretty well tell if it is MS related or not.

MS is a learning process. You will be able to attune yourself to your body.

It does get better!!! I feel that I have gotten stronger in many ways.
