Spasms in back?
Dec 21, 2002
I have a question for anyone who might be able to answer it. I have had problems on and off for about a year and a half. I went to my doctor once before because of my problems. I was having tingling, numbness, and pain in my leg, tingling and burning on my face and tongue. He ordered a whole series of blood tests and everything came out fine. Off and on for the next several months, I had little things but nothing major. Then a couple of weeks ago, I got worse. I was so tired. I was having a little bit of a hard time walking because my right leg felt so weird. Also my right arm felt very heavy. I was having muscle spasms that were very painful sometimes, electric shock sensations and things like that. Also I was having very intensely painful sharp pains on the right side of my face. Anyway I went back to my doctor and he wants me to have a MRI on my brain and an EMG on my right leg and right arm. He kept mentioning MS, but told me not to get sold on that. Then he told me the muscles in my back were spasming so badly that it was pulling on my spine and inflaming it. So he prescribed Vioxx and Diazepam, and told me to relax a little that I was too tense. I'm not a stressfull person by nature, but when all of these things started to happen to me I did get pretty stressed out about them. I lost about 7 pounds and he was worried about that. I couldn't sleep at night because I kept thinking there was something seriously wrong with me and I didn't know what it was. Anyway, my question: could the spasms in my back because of stress cause my problems? Also does MS usually cause muscle spasms in your back that badly. My back actually burned sometimes, it was very painful. That's not the only place I had muscle spasms, but I'm wondering if that could maybe be causing my problems. I know this if pretty long, I'm sorry. I'm just wondering about these things. I have my MRI on Monday. Thank you for any help.
