... SSEP is used in conjunction with the other evoked potentials. It is not used as often as the VEP, or BAER, but sometimes they get them as a trio as supportive evidence or if the MRI is negative but spinal fluid is positive for o-bands, MBP etc. It is just one more piece of the puzzle to be used in the McDonald Criteria. ... Hi there! The VEP is usually used to check for peripheral visioin loss, it can also point towards Optical Neuritis because true Optical Neuritis, usually has areas of the vision with loss (even when we cant tell we have it). The test is NOT conclusive for MS; however it can show further need for optical testing, which may in fact find ON to be the culprit. ON, may or may not... (1 replies)

I was told it may be possible that having a negative MRI but a positive VEP test could mean MS, can anyone clerify there for me. One lesion and one positive VEP- how many clinical presentations have you had? The LP question can be difficult because 15% of MSers who have had an LP have a negative (normal) result.
