... rry to say but it sounds like you have a fungus infection. They usually start with yellowing of the nails, or white spots. Left untreated it can lead to debris under the nail and thickening of the nail itself. In later stages the nail will seperate from the nail bed and grow deformed. ... It totally depends on what the black spot looks like. If it covers most of the nail, it is probably due to a hematoma from some sort of trauma, such as dropping something on the toe. If it looks like there is a splinter under the nail, it is simply a splinter hemorraghe which are tiny viods in the nail palte cell production that fill up with blood from the underlying nail...
