Hello Lena-Marie
I am sorry to hear that you are in so much pain. I had a herniated disc at level C5-6 with compression on my spinal cord. I have had cervical damage for over ten years from a diving accident. I just had cervical fusion on that level only last month. My recovery is coming along quite well. I also do suffer with leg and feet problems along with my balance and gait. I was diagnosed with Polyneuropathy after an exam by my neurologist and EMG. I also had numbness in my hands. Since my surgery, I know longer have any numbness in my hands. My neurologist had thought the numbness in my hands was from my neuropathy but I now believe that he was wrong, since my surgery has stopped the numbness. I also have or had great difficulty walking and used a cane some days & a walker others. My last neuro surgeon had wanted me to start using a scooter but I declined. I wasn't ready to give up yet. I am sure glad that I didn't give up as my legs feel somewhat better since surgery. Not all my pain is gone, but I am able to walk a bit better. Also the cervical area does affect the legs. I suggest that you do a little research and read about just how badly it can affect the legs and in severe cases can cause paralyzation. Not all levels can cause pain and numbness in the legs and feet.

I believe that you may get many answers when you have your EMG. I also hope that you doctor has prescribed something to help with your nerve pain. Many people are prescribed Neurontin or Topamax as these two really seem to help patient's. I had to take two meds, both Neurontin & Trileptal as my pain was severe. I have now stopped the neurontin. I do wish you the very best and will keep you in my prayers.
