Is anyone taking Cymbalta for Neuropathy? They are weaning me off of Lyrica and I'm going to start taking Cymbalta.

I'm taking both. Can't say that the Cymbalta alone does anything for my pain. I wish you the best though. I hope you're luckier than me with it. :)
Hello there,

I also take Cymbalta for nerve pain but with that I take Topamax for neve pain. So it is hard to tell which if either works alone! I started the cymbalta first, but added the topamax very shortly after. I have just cut down on the cymbalta to 60 mg a day instead of 60mg 2x a day. I am nervous to go off of either completely to test it and see if one or the other work alone! Lyrica gave me complete blurred vision and that scared me to death!:dizzy: stopped that after 1 week! Neurontin (gabopentin) knocked me out for hours on the lowest dose of 300 mg. and I know people who take 2800-3000 mg. a day:eek:!!!

I take these in place of narcortic medications by choice. But I do throw in some tylenol or advil if needed in between. A surgical nurse once told me, if you alternate tylenol and advil on a regular schedule (every 3 hrs., it will have the same effect as pain med's without the weird feelings) I did do that method after a couple hand surgeries and it did work, to a degree, still had some pain but more manageable. I guess it makes some sense, tylenol for pain and advil for swelling!

Hope it works out for you!
Thanks for the info. They have got to do something for me or I think I will go crazy. Today is my first day of just 1 Lyrica, do that today, tomorrow and Sunday. Monday I start the Cymbalta, but only 60mg once a day. I sure hope it does something, I can't remember the when I slept for more then 1 or 2 hours a night. I'm so tired, but can't sleep cause my feet hurt so bad!!!

Thanks again for the reply back. ;)

Has your doctor considered a sleep aide for the sleepless nights? they tried ambien for me, but it made me a zombie the next day. I am hyper sensitive to medications, that is why I try not to take them as much as I can.:dizzy: Probably why I can't ever tell if I am coming or going! Proper sleep has a huge impact on how the rest of our body reacts to pain and tolerance of pain, so if you are not getting enough sleep/rest, you are likely not to get enough pain relief. Do you have a heating pad or electric blanket you could try resting your feet on at night or even thru out the day for some heat soothing? sometimes you just have to try your own things except ice from what i am told and I know how the cold feels in my hands:mad:, so ice is definitely out for me!!!

If there is anything else I can answer of try to, please let me know.. We are all here to help one another!!!
I tired the heating pad on my feet one night and it made them like 100 times worse. They told me the heat made the nerves more something (I forget exactly what they said) but I do know it made them hurt even worse, didn't think that was possible, but.........

I know that lack of sleep makes everything worse so I'm thinking about calling them today to see what they have to say about that. I can't take tylenol PM or anything like that cause they make me hyper instead of sleepy.

I do know I need some sleep and some relief from this hurting.

Thanks for your reply! I'm kinda new to all this and need any and all suggestions.
Called the Dr. and he's calling me in something to help me sleep. It started with an "n", but can't remember the name. I sure hope it works............

That is great, hopefully that will help some! I just thought of a couple other things my pain management doctor did. Well one was a prescription patch called Lidoderm, it is a low dose numbing agent, to relieve some pain. The other is just over the counter stuff she recommended called icy hot, or anything along that line. I used to get something very similar through physical therapy and it was great, (the feeling went right through each layer to the bone and felt so good!) then I used icy hot a few times and just really keep forgetting about it myself! Have you tried soaking your feet in epsom salt? that is some good stuff also. It has so many good uses. I don't know how it works, but it does (temporarily of course).

do let me know what doc prescribed and how it works!
