Same for me. I went to the endocrinologist's office and brought my husband in case I felt faint or had a bad reaction. The doctor did the shot and I had no reaction. I could have driven but I didn't think it was worth the risk so we went with a cab (but I live in NYC and it wasn't a long ride).

I think the doctor was most concerned with showing me how to use the pen, which was not all that complicated, but he told me he'd had a "Nobel prize winner" in recently who simply could not catch on the routine of the pen. He really wanted to go over the pen mechanics much more than the actual injection. The pen comes with a starter kit that includes very detailed step by step directions (and a videotape too) so learning how to use the pen is pretty easy.

However, I have to admit I was so nervous the first time I did it at home -- and so anxious to get it over with -- that I wiped the pen diaphragm with the alcohol wipe but then forgot to wipe my skin after I primed the pen. I had a few hours of worry that I might get an infection but fortunately, nothing happened. I had to remind myself that I'd stuck myself worse with sewing needles how many times without getting an infection. Fortunately, I didn't get the red spot others have mentioned. If I had, I'm sure I would have been calling the doctor asking if I needed antibiotics.

Now it's routine. Best of luck to you on your first dose and hereafter.
