I hope you will feel better soon. I know how that feels. I cracked a rib during a bout of bronchitis a few years ago and I was not a happy camper.

My husband broke a rib a couple of days before Thanksgiving, while he was in a physical therapy session. The PT had been doing joint mobilization on his shoulder, which has been giving him a lot of pain lately, and told him to turn onto his side. When he flopped over on his side he felt that popping sound you mentioned, and it was swollen and sore by the end of the day. The Dr. didn't bother with X-rays. He said it might not show up anyway, and there's really no treatment other than icing it.

It took him about 8 weeks to completely heal. The holidays were pretty low-key for us, needless to say.

His PT said the break could have happened to anyone if they hit that precise spot with the same force, whether they had osteoporosis or not. Since ribs aren't trabecular bone, they aren't necessarily weakened by osteoporosis? Anybody know about that?
