Re: Forteo

Hi Jeanette: Did your dr suggest this drug? If so, you could have the dr fill out a "drug exception" form from your insurance co. You would have to contact the insurance co and ask how you go about doing a drug exception and to send the forms to your dr. If your dr agrees to do this, have them fill it out and explain that you can't take bisphosphonates, so your only option is forteo. Is your t-score at or below -2.5? Some drs won't put you on forteo unless your t-score is at that level, so you need to find out that score and contact the insurance co. This process will take some time but go ahead and try it.

If you can't get help through the insurance, you could also contact Eli Lily and ask for their Lily Cares form to fill out. Eli Lily will ship the drug, if you qualify, for an administrative cost of $25.00 a month. To qualify you have to meet their requirements and I'm not sure what they are, other than you don't have insurance to cover the cost, and you are on a fixed income.

Good luck on all this.
