Barring some vit d metabolic problem, your d level will stabilize at a good level when you arrive at your adequate dose. Vit d is stored in fat tissue but it is also used by your body daily. So, you need to work with your doctor to find out what level of supplement you need to take by doing periodic vit d blood tests.
For me, I need around 3,000 a day at least to be around 38. But I am on forteo a drug that monkeys around with your vit d levels.
Do a search on this board about vitamin d and you will find alot of good information. It is a topic that is discussed alot. In fact someone very recently asked almost the identical question you are asking. It was on Jan 24. Search "vitamin d" and Vit d".
You should also look at the discussion regarding vit d 2 versus vit d 3.
If your 50,000 dose was a prescription then it would have been d2.Probably your 1000 IU a day is the d3. But you should see what you are taking.
