My name is Stephanie and I am 36 years old. have had neck and lower back pain with pain into my hips for a few years now. I just had a Dexa scan this past week due to long term steroid use and found out that I have osteopenia. The only medicine I took when I was young was Accutane when I was in my 20s. I became ill in 2000 and have been on Prednisone for eight years now due to asthma and sinus disease. I have sinus disease with facial pain, TMJ, headaches, asthma, GERD, reflux. I have noticed since my 30s I have begun to shrink. I use to be 5'8' and now I am 5'7'. I have gained a lot of weight on Prednisone and inhaled steroids in the last five years. My question is can this pain I have in my lower back and neck (C-spine) be from osteopenia. It has been gradual in onset and lately my back pain lasts for days. I cannot sit, stand or lie down. I actually cannot find a comfortable position without constant pain. It will eventually subside after use of magnetic therapy. I have read a lot on the internet and it seems that people with osteopenia have similar problems as myself. Why is this not be studied more in patients like myself. COULD it be POSSIBLE that our pain is from osteopenia?
