Osteoporosis Message Board

Osteoporosis Board Index

Hi all,
I am new to this board and I'm hoping to find advice about the right way to reverse my osteopenia. I was diagnosed 3 years ago (at 36) and put on Boniva which caused me lots of stomach problems but at the time I didn't know it was the Boniva. After 2 years on Boniva they did a new Dexa scan that showed no improvement so they put me on Actonel. The Actonel gave me horrible side effects that resembled a heart attack (turns out it burned my esophagus so I was put on Nexium for that), severe bone and joint pain, loose teeth, etc. After doing some research on Actonel I decided to get off against my doctor's orders since he wanted me to keep taking it and all the symptoms disappeared so I am now able to exercise, I'm eating healthier and I am taking Caltrate plus with minerals which I've read is not the best because it is Calcium Carbonate. I have a new doctor now and he is allowing me to stay off medications for now but he is giving me a lot of pressure to get on Fosamax. I absolutely don't want to have to take any medication so I would appreciate any advice about the right supplements and regimen. My T score numbers are:
Spine -1, Hip -0.5, Femoral neck -1.9.
Thank you so much for any help.
