Osteoporosis Message Board

Osteoporosis Board Index

Hey Phyllis, I just typed you a long message and lost it ARGG!! lol! Okay I will probably stop a while before my next scan

I ordered the NSI brand I think it was.. It was what you said you take.. Right now I am taking my synthroid first thing in the morning, and 1200mg of Calcium and a collagen pill for hair, skin ,and nails and bones at lunch and at bedtime I take my multi vitamin, and fish oil...I ordered Strontium, magnesium, vit k2 and vit C... I wonder if I should take my multi vitamin at lunch because it has calcium in it. What do you think? Is there anything else I should be taking? Am I taking enough or way too much? lol!
Tami :-)
Hi Tami ...the strontium comes in 340 mg. caps and you take 2 at the same time for a 680 mg. total dose. I don't believe in taking mega doses of any vitamin or mineral and only take extra magnesium because the multi doesn't contain much. That i take an extra 500 mg.of. You want to get all that is needed, but its best to get a portion from a healthy diet of fruits, veggies, whole grains and lean protein. There are so many fortified foods that its easy to get them that way too. I've been taking a once a day calcium tablet that has 1000 mg cal and 400 mg. D. i know you're supposed to separate the calcium but this one is formulated to be taken that way. Between the syhthroid and the strontium its hard to find 2 other times of day that fit in.

If you enable your private message feature i can send you articles. Have a good weekend..take care..phyllis

Hey Phyllis, I have had a couple of sick little ones and haven't been on here much in the last few days...Hope you are well, and had a good weekend... I think my private message is enabled from what I can tell. (I am still trying to figure out everything on the boards) If it's not, if you'll tell me how I will be glad to do it...

I ordered a big bottle of Strontium 240 caps and mine is 680 mg, so I just take one at night..so far I haven't had any side effects. I am glad because I didn't think about that when I ordered such a big bottle...

I am trying to split everything up, where I am just taking my vitamins at
lunch and bedtime... Like you said it is hard to find two other times to fit more in. I'll forget if I try to do that.

I ordered "The myth of Osteoporosis" yesterday, I am looking forward to reading it...My library didn't have it, but I found it online.. Anyway let me know if you can't send a private message...
Talk to you soon,:)
Tami

:) Hi Tami.

I am a new member and read the issues on osteoporosis and the positive responses on this debilitating condition.I am only 42 years old, male and already osteopenic which is confusing as i have never really injured myself. My message to you is to continue to be positive, exercise, take your vitamin D and calcium supplementation and any other prescribed medication,do weight bearing exercise and most importantly is to be inspired daily which will allow you to lead a fulfilling life.

All the best.

Hi AT. Thanks for replying to my post, and for the encouraging words. :-) I have not injured myself either, but mine came from being hyperthyroid for a long time before we found out what was wrong with me, I have since had my thyroid removed. I had my Endo look at my dexa scan and he said I am actually just osteopenic which made me feel a little better. I do take my supplements and exercise and try to lead a fulfilling life. I have just recently had Mono and so have not exercised every single day, but tried to do what I can. Lately it's been more walking, yoga and a some strength training.. Do you know what may have caused yours? What type of exercise do you do? I am always wondering if I am doing enough. I have a big family so it's sometimes hard to find the time for myself. Also what do you take for it, if you don't mind me asking? Hope you get along well and continue to get better and better. :-)
Tami~
