[QUOTE=lulu227]:wave: Hi holly,
I have also been diagnosed with osteopinia in 2000, but it became worse, and just was put on fortero injections in Octorber of 2004. The doctor said I should feel some difference in 3 months, and I have. My main complaint was rib pain, back and hip pain. My rib pain is just about gone! My mother also had rib pain, but unfortunetly she passed before fortero was used. Maybe you could speak to your doctor about this injections.
Hope I helped!

I've been on Forteo injections for over 10 months now so if you have any questions, I will try to answer them. I too had rib pain but as I said in another post, I think mine is from fibromyalgia because it comes and goes. I have lower back pain too but my MRI showed all kinds of troubles with my spine. I don't think Forteo will stop my back or rib pain but a lot depends on the reason for the pain. Did you doctor try Actonel or Fosamax before suggesting Forteo? I couldn't tolerate Actonel and my osteoporosis was so bad I had to have something so Forteo was my best option. I'm just thankful that there is something that is helping my bones.

have no idea what i am doing but did see your message and assume you wil see this? i have very severe osteoporosis did try actonel a couple of years ago but couldnt take,,understand forteo is for patients that have severe problems,,my concern is because the consumers watch group started by ralph nader does not reccomend this ,, and has asked fda not to approve,,the other meds they asked not to approve but did the celebrex,neurotin,vioxx and there was another one well i have used all 3 of these in the past 5 years and had terrible heart palpatations so bad the dr. had me stop .i guess this is my fear every thing i have tried has had bad side effects for me .you say you have taken for 10 months and did not feel any freedom from pain in your ribs...being you do have bad osteoporosisand have used 10 months i think i will wait a month or so before i try

Most people say that osteoporosis does not cause pain. However, the damage that it causes, such as bone and vertebral fractures, do cause severe pain. I never had any knowledge that my bones were in the sad shape they are in until I had my 1st foot fracture for no reason. I was just walking. I had no pain until the fractures started.

I am aware that Ralph Nader and his citizen's group would like to see Forteo and many other drugs taken off the market. He has a list a mile long of "bad" medications. You are right........he and his group were correct on some of the drugs on his list. I consider my use of Forteo as medically necessary just as a cancer patient would, in most cases, take chemotherapy although it *might* do more harm than good.

I don't question your decision in any way concerning postponing your use of Forteo. You may go throughout your life without a fracture. Not everyone with osteo has fractures. I sure hope that is the case. None of use have a choice of our diseases but we sure have a choice as to our treatment. It's everyone's individual decision. I sincerely hope that you can have pain free days in the future.

Blessings,

hi new bones and old bones.this is suezz13, i guess i can call myself no bones fits the description of me. i still dont quite understand the message board but guess i must be hitting the right button,,as i said i am 71 and as my dr. said my bones are shot i am in constant pain in my ribs and upper back and housebound i was interested in forteo and after much consideration ave decided to wait awhile before i start it , i have researched it to quite a lenght and my sister daughter,who works for the govt. did too and i dont feel comfortable with it perhaps i am making a mistake but my gut feeling tells me i am not , i have more faith in ralph naders group than the fda,,and feel very strongly that within a short time they are going to find many problems..they arentsure if it can cause nerve damage andmany other things. i have enjoyed talking to you very much and the best of luck to you both you are still very young. i was diagnosed in 1990 with this,they call it the silent disease because you dont know that you have it until its too late ,,that was in my case..in 1990 the bone doctors said they never realized it was such a problem i had an early hystercomy ,the age of 35,had 5 children,was lactose intolerance so therefor no dairy products and if my gyn dr. had put me on estrogen at that time i wouldnt be this bad he said but looking back at different situations i realize i had it in the 70s and never knew it ,it was picked up in an ordinary chest x-ray in 1990 and by that time i had lost over 65% of my bone mass, the best to you old bones (suezz13)
to old bones-------do i have the right to give you my email address so that we could correspond or is only for message purposes thnks suezz13
