... I have taken Fosamax for years - since it first came out. I started with the once a day and now am taking it once a week. I started with full blown Osteoporois and have a Dexa test every two years. There is so much improvement that it is now called Osteopenia. So I have no complaints as it is doing its job. Nor have I ever had any side effects from it. I make sure to... (30 replies)
... Well, I did the deed and swallowed my first Actonel. I have to say, after everything I've read on these boards, it was almost as scary as the first Forteo shot. Anyway, I've survived the first hour. I sort of feel a "ping" of heartburn, but it could be imaginary, since I'm anticipating it. (I also had a big dinner out last night, and that could be the culprit :) ) So... (30 replies)
... Good luck, Spinewhine! It looks like I am probably going to go on Actonel soon; I'll be finishing up with the Forteo in another week. I took Actonel for a year before I started the Forteo and had no problems with it, so I am hoping it will be the same this time. I prefer to not to have to take anything, but don't want to lose any gains I may have made or have more bone... (30 replies)

... I was planning to start Actonel on Saturday, but the husband of an elderly friend died and we went to be with her. We are helping with funeral plans and I was afraid to take a drug I'd never taken in case I had the horrible burning heartburn I've heard about. The funeral is tomorrow, so I can't take the drug then either because I have a lot of driving to do. At this point,... (30 replies)
... I've just returned from my trip to Cleveland and the Cleveland Clinic with Dr. Licata. I discussed strontium ranelate with him. It is his opinion that this would be a viable alternative to follow up with Forteo, but he doesn't expect FDA approval. He said that strontium citrate was different than the ranelate type and that it was not effective. I'm wondering if strontium... (30 replies)
... Spinewhine, Let us know how you do with the Actonel. I was using Forteo because i couldn't tolerate the bisphosphonates. I'm still sticking with Calcium and exercise until my DEXA which is in two weeks. It just seems like long term use of the bisphosphonates will eventually cause stomach complications and/or bone pain. Hoping for another alternative soon. (30 replies)
... I have mostly posted on the Forteo threads, because I was taking that drug for two years. I have just finished with it (it's only approved for use for 2 years) and I am about to start on Actonel this weekend. It was always the plan for me to go on to Fosamax or Actonel after the Forteo. I know several people taking the drug with no side effects, but I'm plenty nervous. ... (30 replies)
... Hi buckeye54, I tried actenol for a couple of months before deciding it wasn't for me. I am curriently taking strontium citrate to help my bones. ... (15 replies)
... A week or two back i read a post where someone mentioned they now had pain in their tailbone area (sorry I don't remember where i read it.) I have few questions for that person or anyone else experiencing this. I stopped taking actenol (in July) after 2 months so i don't know if this is related or not. I am fine most of the time unless i have been sitting for a while,... (5 replies)

... Hi Elegiamore, thanks for your concern. I too was surprised when i found the calcium supplement that it taken once a day. I talked to the phamacist at walgreen about the one dose and was told that it was ok. She told that your body only absorbs as it needs to replace whats lost daily. Its a balancing act so to speak. It's formulated to be taken once a day with patent... (70 replies)

... I have just started on Actonel. I have been diagnosed with osteoporosis with a compressed fracture in my vertebrae, I'm 51 yrs old and a Fitness Instructor. I was not told that you had to be post menopause in order to take Actenol, as I am not yet post menopause. I hope truly that it works. I'll do anything I can to prevent further damage to my body. We are fortunate to... (13 replies)
... guess is that the ezorb people don't want to lose customers and would like to add new ones, for them money is the bottom line. They are merely looking after their own interest. Whether or not you take strontium is your decision, not theirs. After telling my dr. that i was going to take it instead of the actenol, he gave the ok to try it. Did you notice that all... ... Hi, I have osteopenia and am taking actonel. I do not experience any side effects from this medication. I know that it can cause acid reflex if you lay down after taking it or do not have enough water with it. I have been on this medication for 2 and a half years. I take it once a week, first thing in the morning with a huge glass on water. After taking it, I get ready and go... (12 replies)
... This is my first post on this board. I was DX with osteo a couple of months ago and put on actenol. I was ok for a the first few weeks then started experiencing blurry vision and dry eyes. I called the dr. and told him i wasn't taking it anymore that i'd rather risk a fracture than damage my eyes. I walk daily, do weight training, take calcium/D and eat a good diet. I... (17 replies)
... sjde, I think alot of us are in this same boat and no one has the proper answers. I am 50 and was diagnosed six years ago with osteopenia during a free bone density scan which my doctor even asked me "Why are you bothering to go?" Good thing I went because I got a dexa scan after that and one every two years since and definitely went right into osteoporosis. I am now -2.5... (5 replies)
