... I have stopped taking fosmax and actenol. The side effects from both these drugs was too much for me to take. I had eye problems, teeth problems aches and pains from joints that I never new. It took about one month for these problems to disappear. I told my doctor that before I started these medications I felt fine....She told that the medications just slows the process and... ... I have been accepted as a patient at a big hospital in our medical center. I should not say accepted as I have to pay (out of pocket as my insurance does not cover my osteo.) but the MD has to accept you as a patient after viewing your history. I have no idea what they will say but they do have cutting edge info, right now they are involved in a Bone Disease Program study. ... (1 replies)

... I am really perplexed , I am a 47 yof, diagnosed with Osteo about 5 years ago. I tried Foxomax for 2 years with no results on bone scans and I stopped due to the horrible joint pain which I did not experience until the second knees started to kill me along with shoulders, etc. I cannot tolerate calcium, it blows my stomach up and I feel awful. I am afraid to... (7 replies)
... Although I have not started treatment yet with Fosamax or Actenol, I know I will have difficulty tolerating either since I've had stomach issues for the majority of my life. I like the IV option. I'm not sure if I'm eligable and if they even offer this in the states, but I will bring it up with my docs. Could you tell me if it has any side effects? (muscle or bone... (0 replies)
... I was diagnosed with osteoporosis at a fairly early age and was pre-menopausal (age 45) so it didn't make sense. I went to someone who was supposed to be a superior endocrinologist to find out WHY. He did not find out why, all he did was test the thyroid with blood tests and then he prescribed Actenol. I have not yet taken any medications for osteoporosis because I prefer a... (8 replies)

... DearTappster, Have you found out anything new regarding an assosciation between Actonel and the back pain / hair loss situation? I have been on and off of Fosomax for a year or more. I recently moved over to Actonel. (Used the 1 X a week dose in both). I do have a history of back problems, but had not been bothered for a long while. Recently, with what seemed to be my... ... I too am experiencing back problems and taking Actenol. I am a female, so maybe this means it doesn't matter what gender you are. I even purchased a new mattress to help relieve some of the pain; it didn't help! Now I am dealing with hair loss and can't help thinking this too is a side effect of the drug. I'm afraid to stop though because a friend tried to do it on her own,... (11 replies)
... I have atypical Duct hyperplasia myself, so far only one surgery, I never was on HRT and my bone density is severe but I take actenol, whether it has long term effects remain to be seen. (2 replies)

... Okay ladies...I'll be 70 in May, that's very post- GYN knows I have acid reflux. MY density tests, 4 years apart, show 5% improvement, just doing calcium/magnesium daily (soluble). GYN says that's not enough. She's telling me I'm in the not-quite osteoporosis category. (Previous Doc called it that, but was the one that suggested more calcium...also... (19 replies)

... Dr Joseph Mercola is a Dr who is anti conventional medicene, he wrote the "No Grain Diet" which one naturopath recently has taken a second look at for some misleading information. Any extremist is subject to suspicion to me. Not everything he has written should be taken as gospel. You do have to weigh both sides, my Dr is conventional/alternative and he boldly says there is... ... Yep, I have gastritis endlessly it seems so anything I take I have to consider what effect it will have on my tummy. Actenol, when I've taken it didn't bother my stomache much and I haven't tried fosomax as yet. My scores are -2.75 lumbar, and -3.7 hips. So far so good, only have had a couple broken bones in the foot! I take the supplements and try to eat calcium enriched... (2 replies)
... ps, also have had fractures in the feet because afterall the foot bones are thin to begin with. It's a mess and I just keep trying to do it all right without the actenol but I also don't want to be in a wheelchair and that is where 2 of my Drs said I'll end up in if things don't change. ... ... I to have been put on 50,000units of Vit D a month as well. Supposedly if all other reasons for losing calcium in the body has been ruled out and the test shows low Vit D, it can signal the reason for calcium loss as Vit D helps you absorb calcium. I'm moderate osteoporosis in the lumbar 2.8 but severe in my hips 3.9, I am concerned with high dose of vit d along with my... (5 replies)

... Boy, it seems like everytime I turn around I need another board. It sure is frustrating. ANyway, I had a bone density test yesterday and it was worse than last year. My T score was 2.4 which I know is osteoporosis. I am 56 . I have been on EVISTA with no side affects at all. But, apparently it has not helped my bone loss. So now, the dr. wants me on actenol. ... y cold person enjoyed the extra warmth when it happened!! I'm the first to critique every new drug that comes out really and research all I can. I'm back off the actenol again as I just really want to do it my own way! I put in about 45 minutes at the gymn nearly 4 times a week doing weight bearing and aerobic. ... (2 replies)
... JackieO, gee you really went the hard way, breaking the knee cap, yikes. Back in my way younger days I was out partying and I went up the stairs and jumped off the third step and landed on my kneecaps on a hardwood floor, I was foolishly plowed enough that it didn't hurt real bad, had to crawl back to my table and sit quietly embarassed and for a couple weeks I couldn't walk...
