... I have tried Fosamax, Actonel, Boniva and Miacalcin and get extreme joint pain. Has anyone else had this problem? ... (1 replies)
... Biphosphonate drugs, like Fosamax, Actonel and Boniva work by killing off osteoclasts which are supposed to resorb old, infirm bone. ... (6 replies)
... I am not sure about actonel, but I can tell you that my experience with BOTH Boniva and Fosamax was joint pain. ... (18 replies)

... Well, of course, one can't say ''definitely'' that the Actonel was to blame. But, there is probably a good chance that Actonel did have something to do with it. ... (16 replies)

... Hi Irene: I must not have explained my brothers situation very well, so I'll try again :). He just had his *first* bmd, on my recomendation, and I believe his score was borderline normal/osteopenic, in the hips and .1 or .2 higher in the spine. He never would have had the test if I hadn't made him promise me he would do it, because he felt it's a womens problem, which is... (13 replies)

... Boniva is the only osteo drug I haven't tried. I couldn't tolerate the side-effects from Fosamax, Actonel, Evista, HRT, Miacalcin, and Forteo. I've recently read that bisphosphonates such as Boniva, Fosamax, and Actonel may contribute to osteonecrosis of the jaw as well as make bones more brittle with long-term use. Studies have confirmed that the fractures people do... (13 replies)
... ELKAYEF: You mention that you have suffered heart palpitations since you were a teenager. I don't know if what you're experiencing now is connected to that. What I have read, and heard, is that there are many people who have experienced heart palpitations while taking bisphosphonate medications, such as Fosamax, Actonel, Boniva, for example. While I'm not allowed to... (2 replies)
... Hi Longsfordesert: I'm glad I could help in some small way... One thing I don't remember you mentioning is your t-score; depending on what it is that would have an effect on what med they might prescribe. Since my score didn't improve much from Actonel (-3.6 spine) they switched me to Forteo because that med is reserved for those who can't tolerate Bisphosphonates... (12 replies)
... Maybe ask your doc if this might be an alternative to the Fosamax for you. I'm not on it myself, but there are many posters on this board who are, most seem to be having very good outcomes. ... (5 replies)

... Yes, Boniva is the once a month drug. And yeah, I didn't think about being stuck with the side effects for the entire month. ... (13 replies)
... that works like Actonel and Fosamax, but it is given as an injection every three months rather than a weekly tablet. Anyone using this treatment? ... (1 replies)
... VIRGINIANN: You mention that you take a natural product to increase bone building or BAP element. Can you give the name of the product - I'm curuous;) monte (6 replies)
... virginiann just curious to what natural product you use to increase bone? Is it strontium? (6 replies)
... If your BMD scores have not improved then your BAP or bone building element is to low. and your NTx level is to high. In order to recover NEW bone your BAP must increase and be in balance with the NTx. I recommend you ask your Doctor for a BAP blood test and a NTx urine test and see what your numbers are. (6 replies)
... I take a natural product that increases the bone building or BAP element. My BAP score is 38.2 on a scale of 42.7. all without side effects. Your right about Forteo building bone except it has to be injected and the side affects could be bad. (6 replies)
... Disclaimer: I don't really know what I'm talking about. The body is normally constantly creating new bone and breaking down old bone. When the process has a negative balance, old bone is being lost faster than new bone is being created, which results in osteoporosis. So medicine tries to either increase the production of new bone (Forteo), slow the breakdown of old bone... (6 replies)
... I'm not taking those because of the side effects. If the medications create an unbalanced environment I wonder how if the environment of bone creation is changed for the better by taking those medications. If everything was balanced correctly then I shouldn't be loosing bone. (6 replies)
