... Good question. Forteo stimulates the osteoblasts to lay down more more while Fosamax and Actonel inhibit the osteoclasts from absorbing bone. Therefore, Fosamax and Actonel can only build on what is there while Forteo can theoretically make new bone. ... (5 replies)

... The bisphosphonates are much better. There is a head to head study of Fosamax vs Miacalcin and it shows that Fosamax builds more bone. Not sure if there is any Actonel vs Miacalcin data. So, if you can tolerate a bisphosphonate such as Fosamax or Actonel....they are more efficacious. ... (1 replies)

... it is a daily injectible.....a "pen" you keep in the refrig and inject yourself every day. It cost about 300 dollars a month vs 70ish for Actonel or Fosamax.......and they only have data on patients usining it for 19 months that i am aware of. ... (11 replies)

... Thanks, Spinewhine and Chronie, for your thoughts on my Actonel w/ or w/out Forteo question. Chronie, I'm going to read up on the PREOS clinical trials' results. Sounds like very intersting/surprising results came out of the studies. Spinewhine, sadly, the Fosamax/Actonel didn't "lock in" any bone density I had in my spine when I first started taking the meds four years... (16 replies)
