... The problem for me is that getting dental work is an ongoing thing so I'm never done. It's ridiculous to tell patients to get dental work done then take a medication that the doctors expect you will take the rest of your life. I took one Fosamax pill and my stomach was on fire so that was the end of that. I'll sure be glad when there are more options out there for treatment... (4 replies)

... Hi cody48, I personally only know 3 people who have taken Fosamax. My motherís best friend took it for about 6 months and then had to stop because she had terrible jaw and neck pain. A friend of mine has taken it for osteopenia for about 2 years and hasnít had any unpleasant side effects, and her 2nd bone scan showed that her bone density did not change after ~18 months of... ... Fosamax, or any other biophosphate, for Osteopenia seems like overreacting ... to me. Have you read the book The Myth of Osteoporosis by Gillian Samson? Highly recommend. You could also consider some of the alternative protocols mentioned on this board, which many of us are using with good results. (4 replies)

Last year after having a bone density test at my hospital I was told by my doctor that I had Osteopenia and was given a prescription for Fosamex. ... hi BrittleD it is worth trying silica as I said it is harmless ,the silica I take was recommended by a naturopath it is an extract from horsetail she recommended starting of with 12 tabs a day for 3 months then tapering off to a maintenance dose of 2 tabs a day but I started taking 4 tabs a day (each tab is 500mg )..I am now on a maintenance dose of 2 tabs a day I dont... ... I was wondering about this as well. I tried to sleuth it out but didn't come up with anything. However, I did notice that under the welcome on the right of this page (top) it indicates whether or not one has a private message. I am so glad that I found this message board - it has been a huge comfort to me since that phone call from my doctor's office last week! starfish81, I started reading "The myth of osteoporosis" last night and I am already halfway through it :), and it is helping me to put this into perspective.
