What Is Osteopina
Feb 17, 2008
... I was diagnosed with ostepenia a few weeks ago after a bone scan. As I understand it, ostepenia is a precurser to osteoporosis, which may come sooner or later. Since I have already had a disk in my vertebrea fracture (found because I lost 2 and 1/2 inches in height), my doctor wants to put me on Forteo. I don`t like the idea and my web research has led me to EZorb. I... (4 replies)
... Hello, Osteopenia, refers to the bone mineral density that is lower than normal peak but not low enough to be classified as osteoporosis. My Bone Density Test two years ago, some normal lose of density. I am having another test next week to see if the numbers are the same as two years ago. I plan to keep having the test every couple years to see where I stand regarding the... (4 replies)

... Dear S E Johnson I am also a newbe and male. OK, I am considerably older than you - I am 55 - but that is still much too young to be having Osteoporosis problems (I have osteoporosis in the spine and osteopina in the hip and have had three rib fractures in the last 18 months with no major stress to cause them ). My Testosterone is fine for my age, which probably... (8 replies)
... I have recently been referred to a number of specialists (for a number of reasons), one of whom sent me for a bone density scan. I was in hospital last week (for a separate operation), and he suggested I book an appointment to discuss the results to the bone density scan with him, as it obviously wasn't the best time of us to discuss them. Me being me, I tried to look at... (1 replies)

... Osteopenia is a word used to describe bone density that is below what is considered "normal" for your age. However, unless you've had a bone density test done when you were younger you don't know if you've lost bone or always been below "normal". Osteopenia is not a "diagnosis" and shouldn't be treated, IMHO, and Osteoporosis doesn't necessarily follow. (4 replies)

... I am not sure if you read my previous posting. My husband is 33 years old and was just diagnosised with osteopina. The doctors are performing all sorts of tests to determine why his bone mass is so low but so far have not been able to determine what the problem is and still can't tell us anything. We keep questioning why he is at this point and no one can tell us. They just... (6 replies)

... No history of Osteo, to my knowledge. My mom died when she was forty seven, but she never had any problems with her bones. Grandmothers, seemed to be ok, too. One died of a massive heart attack and the other from old age! ??? My aunt's bone density is very good, however she has had breast cancer. I think she had elevated estrogen levels, which caused the breast cancer. ... (2 replies)

... You sound like the picture of fitness! Does anyone in your family have osteoporosis?? My Mom had severe Osteo. It has put a scare in me. I had all the testing which showed nothing as to why I have it except for heredity. I am 48 now and also have a bulging disc in L-4. My t score is -3.2 for my lumbar spine and it terrifies me. ... Hi, am 42 years old. I have had 2 bone density tests done the past 4 years. My husband gets enough calcium through what he eats but the doctors feel that he is not absorbing it properly. ... (9 replies)
