Cervical biopsy
Apr 24, 2015
Hello everyone. I'm new at posting on this board. I had a biopsy done on my cervix and received a message this evening from the doctor. She said it's after hours. I wanted you to know it's nothing urgent but we will need to start treatments. I guess my first reaction is cancer. I'm thinking that she would have told me if it was in fact an infection. Abnormal cells with HPV positive. I'm also a cancer survivor as well as my mother. My grandmother died with ovarian cancer. I have a strong faith in God but much has happened in the last 2 months. My brother was diagnosed 2 months ago with terminal cancer and my father passed away on Saturday. It would have made things easier for me if the doctor had said exactly what it was. Precancer or cancer. Please tell me what your first reaction would be. Thank you so much for reading this.

I know sometimes our minds go to the worst case scenario which causes even more stress and angst. And it is no wonder your mind is taking you in this direction with all you have been through with your family members. I am sorry for that!

I got an evening call from my gynecologist many years ago for an abnormal pap. I just needed the pap repeated since I had never had abnormal paps. But my first thought was that it was something serious since he called after hours. And that was before we could do our own research on the internet.

You did not go into your history of paps and cervical treatments. If you have kept up with screening and have not had ongoing problems then chances are good that these abnormal cells are treatable. Cervical cancer typically takes many years to develop and does not have a genetic component.

Let us know what you find out. I hope it is nothing serious and is soon behind you!

I agree with STLouisgal. This sounds more likely to be precancer, and it is quite common and there are many ways to remove those cells. I hope when you finally talk to your doc you tell her that that's a terrible way to leave a message on someone's machine!

I'm so sorry for all the grief that has found its way into your life recently. Sending lots of supportive thoughts and hugs.

I am so sorry to hear you are going through all of this. I am about to have a biopsy after having my first abnormal pap, and I am very nervous about the whole situation. I lost an ovary to cancer a few years ago, so I know exactly how you feel and where your mind is going. I am not sure exactly what she meant by her message, but it sounds like whatever it is she is taking action early. Try to stay calm until you know something for sure, stress only makes things worse when it comes to our health and it may be unnecessary. That is what I am trying to do!
