Cancer: Cervical & Ovarian Message Board

Cancer: Cervical & Ovarian Board Index

A little background, about 6 years ago I had a solid mass removed that was the size of a grapefruit, they took out the mass, my right ovary and fallopian tubes. 2 years prior to that I had a large cyst on my left ovary while pregnant, about 11cm. They monitored it all of pregnancy and it went away on it's own. Lately I have been missing periods, but then spotting off and off between when I am actually supposed to get my period (I take birth control pills and have been on them for years). I also have been having pain during sex and some sharp cramping in the area of my right ovary. I had an ultrasound done this morning that showed a complex 1.6cm cyst on my left ovary. The report says is is a hemorrhagic complex cyst with some free fluid. My gyno is on vacation (of course!) so I am anxiously awaiting a return call from her office about what the follow up be. I am hoping because the cyst is so small they will just monitor it? Or because it is complex does that mean they are going to want to remove it? I have never had this type of cyst before and am trying to not freak out. The mass I had before had them very concerned about ovarian cancer and I was immediately referred to a gynecologic oncologist who had me scheduled for surgery with in a matter of weeks....but that was much larger and a solid mass, not a cyst. Thank you for any help!
