Ok so I am new here but have been reading a ton of threads here and WOW! What a great resource for info! I had my LEEP last Friday and the results show that the endocervical canal is fine (Whew!) but the outter cervix still has severe dysplasia. So what now? The doc hasnt called to follow up so do I expect another LEEP to "touch up" the remaining areas? Has anyone else had this result? Any info is greatly appreciated!
I just had LEEP done and am still awaiting results. I am sorry to hear you still have to deal with this. They may want to do another LEEP or look into other options. I think it depends on your doctor. Keep your head up... Good Luck and keep us posted.
Research shows that having positive margins does not increase your risk for recurrance because the cauterization often destroys the remaining dysplasia. But perhaps your doctor saw something more than just positive margins.

Also, could you please tell me how your LEEP went? I'm having mine in a few weeks and am interested in hearing what it's like.

Do NOT stress about it! It really takes only about 5 minutes and before you know it, bam, its over. I was totally freaked out about the numbing shot in the cervix but it didnt hurt, I could feel it but it was just like a little pressure. When they use the loop to burn out the bad tissue it feels a little warm and there is a sort of high pitched noise. Then they put in the Monson's soulution to help with the bleeding and you go home. I am not even a week out from mine and the bleeding has stopped and most of the cramping is gone now, I just have some clear drainage. I will tell you this, if my doc wants to do a "touch up" leep to get the rest out I would do it in a heart beat...that's how bad it wasnt! And I am a huge weenie!
Thank you so much SpecialK. I really appreciate hearing that, and I'm so glad that it's not a big deal. I don't even mind if it hurts a little, as long as it's tolerable.

Something relevant to you: I just had my pre-LEEP consultation with my gyno today and when she was discussing risks of surgery she said that they may accidentally leave some dysplasia behind. I said, "what happens then?" and she said, "well usually since we've cauterized the edges, it's not a problem and we just keep an eye on it." The point is that even though you said you still had dysplasia at your margins, you may be just fine anyway. I hope you are. Best of luck.
Timber-do not worry! I've had a LEEP awake before and it was NOTHING. I thought that the healing process and time was better than having a colposcopy. Everything will be fine. All I could feel was the numbing needle. and that wasn't bad at all! Good luck!
Thank you SLJ. It is soooo relieving to hear positive stories like that. It's so easy to get panicky about things like this if you've never gone through it before, you know?
Timber- Not to worry. It wasn't near as bad as I thought it would be either. I just had mine 3 weeks ago. I didn't even feel the numbing shot. It just made my legs shake pretty bad and my heart race a little. Other then that it wasn't bad at all, the worst part was the stressing about it before hand. I go for my results tomorrow and I am of course a little worried, I think that is all we do when going through this. Worry, worry, worry about what's next. It really isn't that bad though.
Thank you, Curls. You guys (ok, girls) are awesome.
Wow, an hour? The shot is very similar to what you get at the dentist when you have a cavatity filled, like novicane. Plus it only took 5-10 minutes for the whole procedure, no iv, I didnt even have to undress from the waist up.
