You need to notify the doctor (verbally and in writing) about that phone conversation with the nurse, and also the fact that you had to call to get your results. It is bad enough that she would not put you through to discuss the results with the doctor, but then to give you that kind of information?!? Not appropriate in any way, shape OR form! Severe dysplasia is NOT cancer. Phone and tell the doc's office you are coming in to pick up a copy of your pap smear report. Then go in and don't leave until you have it in your hands.

In Canada we have a 4 - 6 week waiting period. In fact, when I went for my smear in Feb 2004, I assumed because I hadn't heard anything after two weeks that all was well. You can imagine my shock when I got the call six weeks later that my pap was abnormal and required further investigation.

Good luck with your colposcopy. Ask the gyne lots of questions - how long for biopsy results, what types of treatment, your concerns about future pregnancies. Hopefully this gyn will be more receptive.
