YES YES YES you should be having yearly exams. Shame on your doctor for not explaining this to you!! I have been reading this board now for about a month and it makes me so angry to see how little doctor's tell their patients. I thank God every day for the wonderful doctor I have. I am scheduled for an abdominal hysterectomy on September 4th for CIN III (high grade dysplasia) on my cervix and in my cervical canal so my cervix will be removed as well. My doctor told me I will still need to have frequent PAP smears as the dysplasia (pre-cancer) could develop in the vagina. So, PLEASE, you have already waited two years........first thing Monday morning make an appointment for a PAP.

Yes, you should be getting vaginal vault pap smears for the rest of your life at least yearly if not every 6 months. Cervical cancer can spread within the vaginal vault and, if not caught early by vault smears, spread elsewhere in your abdomen. After 5 years of negative vault smears, you could go to yearly smears but, regardless, with a history of cervical cancer, you MUST get a smear at least once a year. Depending on the stage of your cancer, other checks should be done like MRIs, etc. PLEASE get a 2nd opinion from a Gynecologist oncologist and proceed with their protocol. You should definitely be seeing a GYN/ONC with a history of gyn cancer.

GL!
