Cancer: Cervical & Ovarian Message Board

Cancer: Cervical & Ovarian Board Index

As if it wasn't enough that I had to deal with severe dysplasia for the past two years, and that I was diagnosed with cervical carcinoma in situ in February and had to have laser surgery for that in May, now I have to have both ovaries removed because of recurring ovarian cysts.

I have a 4-cm functional cyst on my right ovary and a 4-cm complex, solid cyst on my left ovary that is causing a lot of problems and worrisome symptoms.

In the past month, I've had severe fatigue, an unexplained weight loss of 25 lbs in two months (5 lbs. in just one week), loss of appetite, feeling full after eating just a small amount, bloating in my tummy (even with the weight loss, the pants I wore before I lost weight are very tight in the waistband.) I've also had severe constipation, burning on urination, nausea, and pain in my abdomen.

My doctor thinks all of these symptoms are caused by the cysts, and doesn't believe that any cancer is involved, but we won't know until the cyst can be biopsied.

I'm schedule for a laparoscopic surgery on October 12 at 1 p.m. I'm hoping to be able to return to work within a week. I'm a professor at a community college and I have to be able to get back to my classes.

If anyone has had this surgery and could give me some idea as to recovery times and other concerns, I'd sure appreciate it.

Thanks and hugs,
