Cancer: Cervical & Ovarian Message Board

Cancer: Cervical & Ovarian Board Index

Hi VCM! I'm so glad you are wanting to help your sister!

Do you know what stage of cervical cancer that your sister had? I had adenocarcinoma Ia1 and my only treatment was a hysterectomy to remove my cervix and uterus. My lesions (the 2 they found) were only 1mm deep. If they had been deeper, I would have had to have had a radical hyst.

Anyway, back to your original question. I read on another discussion board for women with gynecological cancers. I've read that some women get recurring dysplasia on repeated smears. Some clear them after a pap or two, others don't. I don't know why or how.

All I can say is that these questions need to be asked of her doctor. I hope she is seeing a gynecological oncologist. They are well versed in cancer and know what to look for.

Did your sister have to have any chemo or radiation?

For now, I'd say the wait-and-recheck sounds like what other women in similar situations have had. The waiting game is sooooo frustrating and I don't know what to tell you that makes it any better.
